Inspector Betti (Merli) returns and this time he's investigating a kidnapping ring that is being run by crime boss John Saxon. Full of action (high speed car chases and fights). (B-C)

Beyond Fear (75) - Marilu Tolo, Michel Constantin (Killer Must Strike Again). A man's family is taken hostage, he must balance between dealing with the police and the hostage takers. (A-B)

Big City Cop aka Un Uomo, Una Citta (74) - Enrico Maria Salerno, Françoise Fabian, Luciano Salce, Monica Monet, Carla Mancini. Enrico Maria Salerno plays Comissioner Parrino, a cop who is trying to clean up a drug/prostitution ring from Turin. (C- print has a yellow/green tint and some glitches and rolls)

The Big Family (73) - Richard Conte, Giancarlo Prete, Raymond Pellegrin, Simonetta Stefanelli, Edmund Purdom, Sal Borgese, directed by Tonino Ricci. A police comissioner investigates Mafia corruption in Italy. (B)

The Big Switch (69) - Sebastian Breaks, Virginia Wetherell, directed by Pete Walker. A gambler is set up and blackmailed to try to force him to break a crime boss out of prison. (B-)

The Black Hand (73) - Lionel Stander, Philippe Leroy, Luigi Pistilli, Roger Browne. Story of a young man who gets involved with the mob, takes place around turn of the century in America. (A-B+)

Blazing Flowers (78) - George Hilton, Marc Porel, Barbara Magnolfi, Al Cliver. Pino (Marc Porel) is released from jail after serving time for being the wheelman on a robbery. He immediately runs into Nosey, a guy he served time with who is now a pimp. He takes Pino to a brothel and sets him up with a prostitute. After sleeping with her, he discovers the prostitute is his cousin (!) Nadina who he hadn't seen since she was 9. Pino goes to Nosey and tells him he doesn't want her to be a prostitute any longer. So a deal is made with the higher-ups that she will be released if Pino agrees to drive a truck full of drugs (hidden in plastic flowers). George Hilton plays a police commissioner who is investigating the crime ring and discovers Pino has gotten himself involved. Letterboxed. (A-B+)

The Blue-Eyed Bandit (80) - Franco Nero, Dalila Di Lazzaro, Carlos de Carvalho. Nero plays a man who comes up with a plan to go undercover as an aging bank accountant so he can later rob them without anybody recognizing him. (C or C- has some print damage and color bleed on the foreign subs)

Blood And Diamonds (77) - Claudio Cassinelli, Martin Balsam, Barbara Bouchet, Olga Karlatos, Pier Paolo Capponi, directed by Fernando Di Leo. Claudia Cassinelli plays Guido, an ex-con who was sent to prison for a robbery gone bad. He blames his former boss Rizzo (Martin Balsam) for setting him up. Soon as he is released from jail, his woman is murdered and he heads straight to Rizzo to let him know he's holding him responsible for everything. This is really a great movie with excellent performances (Barbara Bouchet is awesome as a dancer in the middle of it all). (A-B+ has some small twitches and lines)

Born Winner (76) - Joe Dallesandro, Marisa Mell, Eleonora Giorgi, directed by Aldo Lado. Joe Dallesandro plays a motorcycle racer turned thief. Letterboxed. (C- pic is soft/lower resolution)

Caliber 9 (72) aka Milano Calibre 9 - Gastone Moschin, Frank Wolff, Barbara Bouchet, Mario Adorf, Lionel Stander. Moschin plays a con who is involved with dancer Barbara Bouchet and two Mob factions. (B)

Cold Sweat (70) - Charles Bronson, James Mason, Jill Ireland. Bronson plays an ex-con boat captain who is forced to smuggle drugs after his wife is taken hostage. (B-)

Confessions Of A Police Captain (71) - Franco Nero, Martin Balsam, Marilu Tolo, Giancarlo Prete. Balsam plays a Police Capt. who is frustrated with a system that lets criminals go on techincalities. He is trying to take down a Mafia leader when several of his henchmen are killed. The District Attorney (Franco Nero) starts investigating what seems like Police corruption and the Captain's involvement in the murders. An excellent movie on justice and honor. Letterboxed. (B)

Cop In Blue Jeans (76) - Tomas Milian, Jack Palance, directed by Bruno Corbucci. Milian plays scruffy cop Nico Giraldi (who has a pet mouse named Serpico). Some petty crooks make the mistake of robbing big time American Gangster Jack Palance. (B-C)

The Counsellor (73) - Tomas Milan, Martin Balsam, Dagmar Lassander. Thomas Accardo (Milan) is a Mafia lawyer who after being released from jail wants to go straight. But after a mob war breaks out, Accardo's loyalty to Don Maggadino (Martin Balsam) draws him back in. (B)

The Cynic, The Rat, And The Fist (77) - Maurizio Merli, John Saxon, Tomas Milian, directed by Umberto Lenzi. A hood nicknamed The Chinaman (Tomas Milian) breaks out of jail and heads to crime boss Frank DiMaggio (John Saxon) with a plan to cooperate and split the proceeds. But the partnership doesn't last long and a gang war erupts when DiMaggio believes The Chinaman is ripping him off. Ex-Inspector Tanzi (Maurizio Merli) gets involved and is determined take them down after The Chinaman puts a hit out on him! Letterboxed. (B-C+)

Day Of Violence aka Operazione Kappa: Sparate A Vista (77) - Mario Cutini, Marco Marati, Maria Pia Conte. A police inspector has to deal with two crooks who take a restaurant full of hostages during a crime spree. (C)

Deadly Chase (78) - Luc Merenda, Luciana Paluzzi, Janet Agren, Patrizia Gori, directed by Franco Prosperi. Luc Merenda plays Commissioner Verrazzano, a tough cop/ladies man investigating the death of a woman's (Janet Agren) brother and a string of mob related killings. (C)

Death Rage (76) - Yul Brynner, Barbara Bouchet, Martin Balsam, Massimo Ranieri, Sal Borgese, directed by Antonio Margheriti. Peter Marciani (Yul Brynner) is a retired hitman living in New York. An old associate shows up and wants to hire him to assassinate a man named Gallo in Italy. He's not interested until he finds out Gallo is the man responsible for killing his brother. After arriving in Italy, he starts doing surveillance on the target. He runs into a small time hood named Angelo (Massimo Ranieri) who is hoping to work for Peter. Angelo is persistent so he starts training him to be a hitman. Barbara Bouchet plays a dancer who Peter gets involved with. Martin Balsam is the police commissioner trying to locate Gallo and arrest him before it's too late. Highly entertaining. This is the longer version that has Barbara's dance number and some nudity cut from other versions. (A-B+)

Defeat The Mafia (70) - Victor Spinetti, Maria Pia Conte, Pier Paolo Capponi. A police inspector investigates the death of an American girl connected to drug smuggling in Italy. Letterboxed. (C)

Diamond Thieves aka The Squeeze (78) - Lee Van Cleef, Karen Black, Edward Albert, Lionel Stander, Peter Carsten, and the great Dan van Husen. Lee Van Cleef plays a retired safecracker who is talked back into doing one more job in New York. Directed by Antonio Margheriti. (B-)

Dirty Gang (77) aka La Banda Del Trucido - Tomas Milian, Luc Merenda, Mario Brega, directed by Stelvio Massi. Luc Merenda plays cop on the edge Inspector Ghini and Tomas Milian is reformed hood 'Trash'. Trash gets involved with a gang pulling a diamond robbery that goes bad. (C- print is very soft and has glitches)

Every Man Is My Enemy (67) - Robert Webber, Elsa Martinelli, Jean Servais, directed by Franco Prosperi. An American thief (Robert Webber) goes to France to take part in a big heist that turns bad. Stylish, and Elsa sure looks beautiful. (B-C+)

Eye Of The Spider (71) - Antonio Sabato, Klaus Kinski, Van Johnson, Lucretia Love. Antonio Sabato is a jewel robber who is set up by his gang and sent to jail. While being transported, he is sprung out of police custody with the help of a man (Van Johnson) who also has reason to want revenge on the gang. And now, it's time for the obigatory 'Survivor' refrence: It's theee Eye of the spider, it's the the thrill of the fight! Letterboxed. (A)

Fight To The Death aka Stein Machinegun (75) - John Saxon, Francisco Rabal, Frank Brana, Simón Andreu. John Saxon is a bank robber playing a cat and mouse game with the police. (C print has some damage)

4 Billion In 4 Minutes (76) - Antonio Sabato, Lea Lander, John Richardson, Vassili Karis. A criminal mastermind called 'The Professor' is serving time for a diamond robbery with a cellmate named Raffaele (Antonio Sabato). The Professor finds a way to break out of jail (with the help of a crane) and Raffaele forces him to bring him along too. After pulling a bank robbery and killing two policemen, Raffaele shows up again and extorts his way into The Professors gang. Letterboxed. (A-)

Four For All (75) - Richard Harrison, Gordon Mitchell, Irfan Atasoy, Alicia Leoni. A group of bad guys working for 'The Organization' show up at Tony Tiger's house. They beat him, tie him to the ceiling with ropes, torture his family in front of him, and then set his house on fire! Tony is rescued, but his family doesn't make it. He calls on three of his friends (a gambler, a Karate expert, and a singer) that he served in the military with. The men all swore an oath to each other that they would be there if any of them needed help, so they show up to help Tony take care of business! (A-)

Frame Up (68) - Henry Silva, Keenan Wynn, Pier Paolo Capponi, Beba Loncar. Henry Silva plays a cop investigating the murder of an informant. Filmed in the San Francisco Bay Area (including some scenes at the old Fremont Drag Strip). (C has a thin line that shows up on the last 1/3 of the movie)

Free Hand For A Tough Cop (76) - Tomas Milian, Henry Silva, Claudio Cassinelli, Nicoletta Machiavelli, directed by Umberto Lenzi. A cop helps spring a criminal named Garbage Can (Tomas Milian) out of prison so he can assist him in rescuing an ill girl who has been kidnapped by crime boss Brescianelli (Henry Silva). Letterboxed. (A)

From Corleone To Brooklyn (79) - Maurizio Merli, Van Johnson, Mario Merola, directed by Umberto Lenzi. Maurizio Merli plays a cop who has to transport a hood to New York and protect him so he can testify against the Mafia. (B+)

Gangsters aka Return Of The 38 Gang (77) - Antonio Sabato, Max Delys, Dagmar Lassander, Rik Battaglia, directed by Giuseppe Vari. Commissioner Varelli (Antonio Sabato) leads an anti-racketeering squad. (B-)

Gangster's Law (69) - Klaus Kinski, Franco Citti, Helene Chanel, Max Delys. Stylish story of a botched bank robbery and double crosses between the gang members. (B+)

The Godfather's Advisor (73) - Dean Stratford (Dino Strano), Jeff Cameron, Simone Blondell (Simonetta Vitelli), Marco Guglielmi, directed by Demofilo Fidani (Miles Deem). Story of old school mob wars between two factions trying to take each other out. (B-C nice but has a few glitches on end credits)

The Godfather's Friend (72) - Richard Harrison, Erika Blanc, Krista Nell. Richard Harrison plays a hitman for the Mafia who gets involved with Erika. Saying much more would give it away, but it's a great movie. (B)

Go Gorilla Go aka Hired Gun (76) - Fabio Testi, Al Lettieri, Renzo Palmer, directed by Tonino Valerii. A wealthy construction contractor is fed up with being extorted for protection money. One day he is saved from an attack when a stuntman named Marco (Fabio Testi) is passing by and rescues him. What the man doesn't know is that the attack was staged with Marco's involvement! So Marco is more than happy to take advantage of the man's offer to become his bodyguard. (C)

High Crime (73) - Franco Nero, Fernando Rey, James Whitmore, Delia Boccardo, Ely Galleani, Silvano Tranquilli, directed by Enzo Castellari. Franco Nero plays a police commissioner trying to take down a mob drug ring. Pretty violent, full of action and chases. (B+)

Highway Racer (77) - Maurizio Merli plays a hot rodding cop after some hot rodding bank robbers. A lot of car chases, including one stunt gone bad where you see a stunt man really hit by a speeding car. (B)

I Guappi Non Si Toccano (79) - Richard Harrison, Gabriele Tinti, Paola Senatore, directed by Mario Bianchi. Note: In Italian, no English subtitles. Gabriele Tinti plays an agent named Tony Lo Bianco (inside joke?) who has to go undercover and join a gang to try and stop a rash of crimes. (C+ some tiny dots pop on and off periodically)

Killer Cop (74) - Claudio Cassinelli, Arthur Kennedy, Giovanni Cianfriglia (Ken Wood), Sara Sperati, directed by Luciano Ercoli. Claudio Cassinelli plays a police comissioner investigating terrorist bombings. Letterboxed. (B)

Killing In The Sun (73) - Henry Silva, Michel Constantin, Marcel Bozzuffi. Story of Mob factions that takes place between 1952 to 1972. (A-B)

Knell, The Bloody Avenger (76) - George Eastman, Jack Palance, Jenny Tamburi, directed by Alfonso Brescia. George Eastman (the man!) comes to the U.S. to investigate the death of his father. George offs so many people that they call him 'Knell' for 'death knell'! (C, overall the quality is pretty good and would get a B, but it has some contrast problems with overly bright backgrounds. Mainly during a car chase scene that gets temporarily washed out.)

Lady Dynamite (73) - Lidia Alfonsi, Anthony Steffen, Orchidea de Santis, directed by Giuseppe Vari. Anthony Steffen plays a reporter who finds himself in the middle of a mob war after he meets the wife of an assassinated mafia chief. (print has a thin line that shows up once in a while B-C)

The Last Desperate Hours aka Milano: Il Clan Dei Calabresi (74) - Antonio Sabato, Silvia Monti, Peter Carsten, Pier Paolo Capponi. Antonio Sabato plays a mobster who has less than 24 hours to live after accidently being infected with a virus from a rat (talk about having a bad day!). Pretty brutal! Letterboxed. (B-C)

Left Hand Of The Law (75) - Leonard Mann, James Mason, Stephen Boyd, Janet Agren, Enrico Maria Salerno. A police squad leader (Leonard Mann) goes (ballistic!) after a gang who specialize in kidnappings after they kill some of his officers. Letterboxed. (B)

Long Arm Of The Law aka Long Arm Of The Godfather (72) - Peter Lee Lawrence, Erika Blanc, Aldolfo Celi. Peter Lee Lawrence decides to hijack a weapons shipment from Mobster Aldolfo Celi. He goes on the run with Erika Blanc but soon finds that it's tough to hide from his old boss. (B-)

The Magnificent Dare Devil (73) - Giuliano Gemma, Susan Scott (Nieves Navarro), Venatino Venantini, Michael Forest, Giovanni Cianfriglia (Ken Wood), directed by Luciano Ercoli. Giuliano Gemma plays a racecar driver who finds himself framed and on the run after his girlfriend (Susan Scott) is murdered. Letterboxed. (C+)

The Manhunt (75) - Henry Silva, Luciana Paluzzi, directed by Umberto Lenzi. Henry Silva plays a father whose young daughter is killed by bank robbers. Instead of waiting on the Police to catch the killers, he hooks up with a group of vigilantes to go after them himself. (B-)

Manhunt In The City (72) - Henry Silva, Woody Strode, Mario Adorf, Adolfo Celi, Femi Benussi. Two American hitmen (Silva/Strode) are sent to Italy to take out a pimp (Luca, played by Mario Adorf) that the Mafia blames for a missing heroin shipment. Luca is innocent, but has been set up by some higher up Mafiosos. He must avoid being killed while trying to clear his name. Excellent cast. The Henry Silva/Woody Strode hitmen were the inspiration for the John Travolta/Samuel Jackson characters in Pulp Fiction. (B)

Master Touch aka A Man To Respect (72) - Kirk Douglas, Giuliano Gemma, Florinda Bolkan. Kirk Douglas plays a safe cracker who decides to pull one last big heist after being released from prison. He enlists the help of an acrobat (Giuliano Gemma) whose skills can be used to infiltrate a highly protected building containing the safe. Soundtrack by Ennio Morricone. Letterboxed. (A-)

Mean Frank And Crazy Tony (71) - Lee Van Cleef, Tony Lo Bianco, Edwige Fenech, Jean Rochefort. Lee Van Cleef plays a big time gangster who meets a small time hustler (Tony Lo Bianco) who looks up to him while both are in jail. The two men plot a scheme to bust of out jail. Was also released as a cut version called Escape From Death Row. (B-)

Merciless Man (77) - Tony Lo Bianco, Maud Adams, Adolfo Celi, Yanti Somer. Tony Lo Bianco plays an ex-Government agent turned detective hired to investiage the murder of man in Genoa. Letterboxed. (C)

Napoli...A Camorra Sfida, A Citta Risponde (79) - Antonio Sabato, Mario Merola, Jeff Blynn, Rik Battaglia, directed by Alfonso Brescia. Note: In Italian with no English subtitles. Mobsters fighting it out for territory/protection money with Antonio Sabato kicking butts and laughing. (C)

The Perfect Killer (76) - Lee Van Cleef, John Ireland, Robert Widmark. Lee plays a hitman for a crime organazation. He decides he's had enough and wants out after he is sent to kill an old friend. The organiazation doesn't agree with his decision and sends a younger (very ruthless!) hitman after him. The funky 70's threads (Fred from Scooby Doo style) and music are in full effect in this one. (B-)

The Rebel (80) - Maurizio Merli, Francisco Rabal, Jutta Speidel, directed by Stelvio Massi. Maurizio Merli investigates a blackmail ring in Germany. (C-D print has damage)

Ring Of Death (69) - Franco Nero, Florinda Bolkan, Adolfo Celi. Franco Nero plays hard nosed Detective Belli who uncovers dirty dealings while investigating a man's murder. (B-)

Risking (76) - Ray Lovelock, Martin Balsam, Elke Sommer, directed by Franco Prosperi. Ray Lovelock plays a cop who gets sent to jail so he can establish a cover to take down mobsters lead by Martin Balsam. (B-C)

Roller Cross aka Speed Cross (79) - Fabio Testi, Vittorio Mezzogiorno, Daniela Poggi, directed by Stelvio Massi. Fabio Testi plays a cop who races dirt bikes as a hobby. He travels to Germany for a race and discovers the mob is running a motocross gambling racket. Note: There is a line at the top of the picture for the first 5 minutes. (C)

Seagulls Fly Low (78) - Maurizio Merli, Nathalie Delon, Mel Ferrer, Dagmar Lassander. Maurizio Merli plays a war veteran who gets himself mixed up in assassinations and double crosses. (C+)

Season For Assassins (75) - Joe Dallesandro, Martin Balsam, Rossano Brazzi. Joe Dallesandro plays Pierro, the leader of a gang of violent young men terrorizing the streets of Italy. They spend most of their time pulling robberies (including one where they pose as furniture delivery men and hide a child inside a couch so they can steal jewelry!). And when he's not threatening people with a circular saw, Pierro is out cheating on his wife and not taking care of his sick child! Pretty bleak stuff! Letterboxed. (A-B+)

Seven Hours Of Violence (73) - George Hilton, Rosemary Dexter, George Wang, Giampiero Albertini. George Hilton is a Kung Fu expert/hitman who wants out of the business. He is forced to do one more job, but things turn sour and he ends up on the run from the police and a group of bad guys. This movie delivers a big helping of 70's coolness..You get George Hilton Karate-kicking boards, and Rosemary Dexter looking pretty during the proceedings. What more do you need in a movie? Recommended! (B-C)

Shadows Unseen (72) - Frederick Stafford, Marilu Tolo, Claudio Gora, Franco Fabrizi. Frederick Stafford plays a tough police commissioner named Miceli who is investigating the murder of a journalist. After receiving an anonymous phone tip, Miceli is lead to a suspect. The man confesses, but the commissioner smells something fishy. He continues to follow a trail of clues even though the higher ups want the case closed quickly. Miceli soon starts recieving threats and gifts that help confirm his suspicions that there is a larger conspiracy. Letterboxed. (A-B+)

Silence The Witness (74) - Bekim Fehmiu, Rosanna Schiaffino, Aldo Giuffre, Luigi Pistilli. Crime Drama. While driving home one night, a doctor is almost run off the road by a car that crashes in front of him. Inside the car he finds a dead man, and another wounded man who were involved in a political assassination earlier that day. The doctor goes to get help, but when he returns with police, the car and men have disappeared. Not long after, the doctor finds his life turned upside down by powerful men who want to intimidate him into keeping quiet about what he saw. Letterboxed. (B-)

Situation (73) - William Berger, Gordon Mitchell, Michael Hausserman, Rita Tushingham. A group of crooks is assembled by a rich guy to pull off heists. Of course some double crossing comes into play! (A-B+)

Special Killers (74) - Frederick Stafford, Femi Benussi, Patty Shepard, Michel Constantin, Simon Andreu. Crime/Mystery about a Police Detective (Frederick Stafford) investigating the murder of his wife (Patty Shepard). (C)

Speed Driver (80) - Fabio Testi, Senta Berger, Romano Puppo, Francisco Rabal, directed by Stelvio Massi. Fabio Testi plays a motorcross racer who gets hired to drive racecars by a crook who has ulterior motives. (A)

Stateline Motel (75) - Eli Wallach, Ursula Andress, Fabio Testi, Barbara Bach. Wallach and Testi play partners in crime. No sooner as Testi is released from jail, Wallach picks him up and they head straight to a jewelry store to rob it! After the robbery they split up and Testi finds himself at a hotel. The owner's wife (Ursula Andress) takes an interest in the mysterious stranger and soon is involved in the dirty dealings between the two crooks. (B)

Super Bitch (73) - Stephanie Beacham, Giacomo Rossi-Stuart, Ivan Rassimov, directed by Massimo Dallamano. Rassimov plays a cop who is investigating warring gangs. His superiors are concerned that he has gone in a little too much undercover and might be in it for himself. (B)

The Syndicate: A Death In The Family aka Colpo Rovente (69) - Michael Reardon, Barbara Bouchet, Eduardo Ciannelli. Highly stylish Euro Crime Film Noir. An ex-neurologist turned industrialist named Mac Brown is murdered on the streets of New York in plain sight. Captain Frank Berin had already been investigating Brown's ties to the Mafia, drug labs, and a girl who was blinded in a medical experiment before his murder. Who had the biggest motive for wanting Brown dead? There's a little bit of everything in this film- The slickest plot in any Euro Crime movie, great photography (several Psychedelic style sequences), Captain Berin even goes undercover in a biker gang at one point. Definitely a jaw dropper, it gets the highest recommendation. Available in the English version or the Italian version (has tv logo in corner) which is shorter but has a different soundtrack. (B-)

Terror In Rome aka Violence For Kicks/I Violenti Di Roma Bene (75) - Antonio Sabato, Giacomo Rossi-Stuart, Franca Gonella. Antonio Sabato plays a police inspector (with some Karate skills) who is determined to take down a vicious gang of dirt bike riding youths who are running rampant in Rome. (B+)

Violent Protection aka Violent Naples (76) - Maurizio Merli, John Saxon, Barry Sullivan, directed by Umberto Lenzi. Comissioner Betti (Maurizio Merli) has to take down a gang of bank robbers and a protection racket, stopping along the way to crack skulls and stomp assorted crooks. (B-)

Violent Rome (75) - Maurizio Merli, Ray Lovelock, Richard Conte, Daniela Giordano, John Steiner. Maurizio Merli is Bettini (aka Betti), a cop who is fed up with the criminals running rampant on the streets of Rome and the bureaucracy of the law. Crime is everywhere: bank robberies, murder, muggings, and to top it off, Bettini's partner Biondi (Ray Lovelock) is shot and paralyzed. While on leave from the force after a shooting, Bettini gets involved with a vigilante group (lead by Richard Conte) who are looking to even the score with the thugs in their community. Action packed with car chases, Merli cracking skulls, and a funky 70's soundtrack, this is one of the best (if not the best) Euro Crime movies. Highly recommended! (B+)

What A Way To Die (68) - William Berger, Helmut Förnbacher, Helga Anders, Giorgia Moll, Sal Borgese. Based on a true story of two criminals who started a crime spree in Germany in 1934. After the Nazi's lock them up, the men escape and continue their crimes and killings across Europe. (A-B)

Wild Policeman aka Poliziotti Violenti (76) - Henry Silva, Antonio Sabato, Silvia Dionisio, Ettore Manni. Henry Silva plays an Army officer who is investigating (with the help of a cop played by Antonio Sabato) how street hoods are commiting crimes with a special 'military only' machine gun. (B)
